Newspaper examines national campaign to reduce medical errors (posted June 13)

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer on May 26 examined the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's nationwide initiative to reduce avoidable medical errors by encouraging "well-established safety measures through common-sense hospital procedures.
"According to Virginia Mason Heath System's medical director of quality, about 30 percent of its staff seem to have sincerely accepted the patient safety and efficiency efforts at Virginia Mason, which is participating in the IHI initiative. Another 20 percent are "getting there," he said. That leaves about half who are "on the fence" waiting to see if the corporate culture sticks around before truly accepting it. more in PI>.

Qualis Health to implement surgical infection reduction project

Qualis Health will provide technical and professional guidance and support for the Surgical Care Improvement Project (SCIP) in Alaska, Idaho and Washington when it launches a national campaign next August to reduce surgical complications by 25 percent. <more>
